PurnaVidya
Purna Vidya is the core component of the children and
youth activities of the HRCC Balavihar.
Earlier known as the Vedic Heritage Teaching Program or VHTP,
Purna Vidya is a guide
for families and communities that wish to teach
the Vedic Heritage to their children in an authentic and systematic manner.
The Vedic Heritage Teaching program is the outcome of years of work
teaching Vedanta and Vedic Heritage to adults and children under auspices of Arsha Vidya Pitham,
New York. The founder of Arsha Vidya
Pitham and Arsha Vidya Gurukulam is Swami Dayananda.
Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati
is a distinguished, traditional teacher of Vedanta.
His depth of understanding and nuanced appreciation of Western culture,
make him that rare teacher who can communicate the vision of scriptural
teachings to modern listeners. He is able to make one see, with immediacy,
the truth of oneself as the whole.
Swami Dayananda has been teaching Vedanta in India
for more than four decades,
and around the world since 1976.
More on Swamiji, Arsha Vidya Pitham and the Vedic
Heritage teaching program
can be found at Arshavidya.
Community participation and support, open dialogue with students, and the authors
own commitment to the Vedic study were the inspiration for creating the Purna Vidya Program more than a
decade ago.
The subject matter has been organized into volumes or parts, tailored to the
ages of the children. The first 3 volumes addresses children of ages six to
eight years and offers teaching material for a three-year program.
The second 4 volumes for children of ages nine to twelve and extends the
learning by introducing the forms of Isvara and the
spirit of Vedic culture.
The final 3 volume for children between thirteen and fifteen years of age
includes the significance of Hindu samskaras, and
provides an introduction to the Bhagavad Gita.
It also addresses some social and cultural issues through the Vedic vision.
